A landmark reimagined. A stunning Grade II* listed art-deco building in the heart of Crouch End, restored as a home for contemporary culture, creativity and community. Hornsey Town Hall brings together workspace, hospitality, dining and event venues - all designed to celebrate collaboration and cultural exchange in North London.
Hornsey Town Hall has long stood as a symbol of civic pride, creativity and community spirit. Originally opened in 1935 as one of the UK’s first modernist town halls, it has now been reimagined as a centre for arts, culture and enterprise – a place where ideas, collaboration and creativity thrive once again.Â
The building will reopen its doors as a fully-fledged Arts Centre, with restaurant spaces, rooftop bar and flexible event venues, alongside contemporary workspaces operated by General People – the creative workspace community behind some of London’s most inspiring workplace destinations.Â
Our Heritage
Built in 1933, Hornsey Town Hall is one of the earliest examples of modernist civic architecture in the UK, designed by architect Reginald Uren, following an international design competition held by the Hornsey Borough Council.
The doors then opened in 1935 and Uren was later awarded the RIBA bronze award, naming his design the best building in London of that year.
Today, the Grade II* listed landmark is entering a new era – one that honours its civic heritage while opening its doors to a new generation of creatives, residents and visitors in the heart of Crouch End.
Hornsey Town Hall has a long and illustrious history as a stage for creativity. Over the decades, its grand Assembly Hall has hosted an extraordinary range of performances – from concerts and community shows to theatre, dance and cultural celebrations.Â
It became an unexpected cornerstone of British music history, with legendary acts such as Queen, The Kinks, Electric Light Orchestra and Dexys Midnight Runners performing here in its heyday. The buildings art deco halls echoed with sound, spirit and a sense of togetherness that defined an era – a tradition that will continue as the Town Hall reopens to a new generation of performers and audiences.Â
